Orbital + Zero B + Sunscreem + Coldcut – 31/12/92 – Brixton Academy

Another new year’s eve at Brixton. Coldcut were, er different. Sunscreem were possibly one of the most disappointing live acts ever. Was really looking forward to them, as I loved the album, but they were ‘too’ live, and (in the context of nice neat computerized music) all over the place. Zero B were great – they only had the one song, the legendary ‘Lock up’ which went down an absolute storm. Orbital were the best I ever saw them, I think. They would however play more or mess the same set every time I saw them over the next 18 months or so. Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll probably doesn’t remember the occasion of me excitedly telling him how great his band was, on the stairs in Brixton Academy at 3am, but I do. All in all, a good night night out.
