Ozric Tentacles + The Flowerpot Men – ??/08/91 – Flicks, Guildford

Ozric Tentacles news advert Sep 1991Notable in that it was in Guildford (cool bands never play in Guildford) and that it was so loud, I think it was the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of me and my tinnitus. The Ozrics were beginning to wear a little thin by this time, had probably seen them a dozen times. Kickmuck used to be a live classic, now Ed and Merv seemed to be racing each other to the end. Flowerpot Men? Nup, sorry.

Fast breaking update just 24yrs later, it turns out that a band called The Flowerpot Men did a song called Beat City which features in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and is actually quite corking. Wonder if it were the same bunch?

The Flowerpot Men were a band that I saw play around Guildford, Godalming and Chidingfold – they played mostly covers (I remember very good versions of Moonage Daydream and Children of the Revolution). I think they also had a version of the band that did original material. They had an excellent lead guitar player/vocalist who had a Robert Smith thing going on, a tall bald bass player, and as I remember a pretty good drummer. As local music went they were a good night out. Have no idea what happened to them, I saw they around 1990 to 1992
